What is Digital Transformation in Education?

Are you new in the education technology space or the term Digital Transformation in Education seem vague to you?

Despite studying Mechanical Engineering and spending the first 6 years of my career as a classroom teacher, I also felt the same way. Not until I started putting intentional thoughts into the process of education digital transformation.

In this post, I will share what is Digital Transformation in Education. And help you understand the strategy to create such an ecosystem.

Digital Transformation in Education (Explained)

Digital transformation is the process of leveraging technology to better the experience of the education stakeholders. When you apply technology solutions to cater to the needs of learners, parents, and the school, then you’re digitally transforming the education landscape.

This digital transformation causes the smooth operation of the educational core and allows its operations and business to scale fast.

A recent McKinsey report highlights how teachers spend only 49% of their time on direct instructions with students. Meanwhile, the other time-consuming tasks like preparation, evaluation, and administration can be automated.

However, digital transformation in education doesn’t just happen at the snap of a finger. It’s not magic. It’s more of a philosophical and infrastructural change to meet the fast-rising pace of learning.

So it accommodates technology solutions and security to create collaborative, interactive, and personalized learning experiences for students, and seamlessly allow parents and teachers to utilize it.

You may be wondering what areas of technology fill the significant areas in education.

Areas of Digital Transformation in Education

While a new teacher, yet to understand the teaching expectation might struggle at first, Digital transformation in education bridges the gaps for improved instructional delivery and learning process and outcomes.

Digital Transformation in Learning Processes and Outcomes

Technology is gradually out-shadowing the conversational learning process. Today, learners can experience an almost complete classroom setting within the comfort of their homes.

Many schools have adopted online classes and video conferencing which are earlier created for mainly business operations. And other advanced technologies are bringing efficiency in this area.

Video Conferencing
This solution allows students to remotely attend classes and engage in online assessment. Aside from assessment, many schools have adopted the use of virtual student onboarding and admission.

For effortless use, schools now integrate video conferencing solutions into their school online platform.

Augmented and Virtual Reality

Augmented and virtual reality allows you to create an interactive experience for your students. This technology lets you explain complex concepts in a simple way using interactive multimedia.

Adaptive Learning
Adaptive Learning is a learning process that utilizes data to facilitate learning thereby monitoring student’s performance and considering an individual child’s needs.

It employs specific teaching devices to facilitate interaction with learners and delivers tailored content to individual learners.

Learning Applications
This solution provides a learning experience that allows learners to interact with their teachers as if they’re in the classroom. With it, learners can access their classroom notes and textbooks, and teachers can give tests.

Artificial Intelligence and Chatbots
Schools can now employ chatbots to interact with the problems students commonly face. Then an AI-enabled chatbot studies the query and provides real-time and helpful responses.
An AI-powered chatbot is also useful in instructional delivery as it can convert lessons into a conversation with study to ascertain their understanding.

Digital Transformation in Instructional Delivery

Technology is transforming instruction delivery as it provides opportunities for teachers to efficiently connect with learners.

With the popularity of smart devices like smartphones and computers, teaching becomes seamless as it automatically keys into our already used platforms.

Smart Class
Classrooms are made smarter with digital whiteboards. These boards have the capability to allow teachers to create interactive content with different colors, shapes, and icons. It also allows them to add multimedia to explain complicated concepts easily.

AI-driven Online Assessments
Assessment is one of the tasks that limit teachers’ action of direct instructions. However, with artificial intelligence (A.I), schools can administer tests and have a human-like learning algorithm to determine the learning outcomes.

Conclusion

Digital transformation in education is the only way to scale the reach and impact of any educational enterprise. It allows you to manage instructional delivery and create an awesome learning experience for learners.

And of course, could solve the problems of the world like this video by the International Telecommunications Union and UNESCO.
